ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A Humorous yet Sobering Look at Wellness and Health Promotion Over the Last Quarter Century
Over the last 25 years, Wellness and Health Promotion have expanded people’s understanding of the importance of a preventive, holistic, or mind, body, spirit approach to health and well-being. Strides have been made in educating people about the relationship between lifestyle and health and disease. However, the emphasis on “prevention” has oftentimes led to a focus on fixing what was broken rather than on promoting what was working. Furthermore, as with any new movement, Wellness and Health Promotion have fallen prey to their share of mistakes, missteps and misinformation. This presentation will take an amusing, yet often sobering look at some of these problems and will make recommendations to avoid repeating similar ones in the next quarter century.
